Aloha HYSA Parents & Players,

This email is meant to provide an update on the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association’s (HYSA) Olympic Development Program (ODP).

ODP continues to change at the Regional and National level and HYSA strives to adapt our program to meet the needs of our players and the demands of the Regional and National program.

For the 2014-2015 year, there will NOT be Island District Tryouts.

Moving forward for this year, HYSA will focus on forming player pools in the ’00, ’01 and ’02 age groups. From the player pools, a State Team will be formed to travel to the Region IV ODP Championships January 8-11, 2015 at the Reach 11 Soccer Complex in Phoenix, Arizona.  If your son or daughter would like to be considered for the 2014-2015 Hawaii ODP Player Pool, please contact the age group coach for the year your child was born in.  Please make contact as soon as possible as pools are being formed NOW so that players may be evaluated prior to Region IV deadlines in late October.  The HYSA ODP player pools are open to ALL HYSA members.

HYSA will again host a “Sub-Regional” event in March 2015.  The HYSA ODP Sub-Regional & College ID Camp will take place March 26-29, 2015 at the Waipio Soccer Complex.  Region IV will send in Regional Staff Coaches to lead the age group trainings. HYSA will supplement the Region IV Staff with College Coaches (both mainland & local) to provide College Identification opportunities for all age groups, but especially our ’98 and ’99 born players.

Details on Registration and cost will be announced soon, with registration opening later this year.

In Summer/Fall 2015, we will re-introduce a modified district camp (on all islands) where the emphasis will be on training (vs tryouts) while trying to keep cost to the player down.

Thank you for your support of HYSA and the Hawaii Olympic Development Program.  Should you have questions, you may contact HYSA at hysa@hawaii.rr.com

Please note, ODP uses birth years. There are no "late borns". So, for example, if your child is born in any month during 2000, they are a 2000.

1998 - Born 1/1/1998 - 12/31/1998
1999 - Born 1/1/1999 - 12/31/1999
2000 - Born 1/1/2000 - 12/31/2000
2001 - Born 1/1/2001 - 12/31/2001
2002 - Born 1/1/2002 - 12/31/2002
