HAWAII ODP State Coaching Guidelines

Working with the Hawaii Olympic Development Program is an excellent opportunity to work with some of the most talented and promising players in the State of Hawaii. Every State Coach will be responsible for the evaluation, identification, selection and development of players in a the Pool of his or her age group to represent HYSA in State, Regional and National ODP events and activities. Below are some guidelines required by Hawaii State Coaching Staff. For a full description of State Coaching Staff requirements, please refer to the Hawaii ODP State Coaching Requirements and Expectations.

  • Coaches must hold at least the USSF “C” Coaching License. Candidates who do not have a USSF “C” License may be considered under certain circumstances.
  • State Coaches shall manage, supervise and conduct at least 3 State Pool Training Camp weekends and 2 Team Training Camp weekends. State Coaches will be paid a per diem stipend for all training and travel events.
  • Regularly communicate the objectives of the State Pool development program with players and parents.
  • Attend and participate in the ODP Sub-Regional Event and ODP Region IV Championship Tournament, if working with an age group that will be attending the Tournament.

Being selected to the State ODP Coaching Staff is a privilege, not a right. Coaches must, at all times, conduct themselves in a manner that represents HYSA at its highest standard. State Coaches are prohibited from recruiting players to participate in any club or non-ODP related events. Generally, ODP State Coaches are assigned to age groups they do not coach in Club.
