Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: My child is in school during the camp, what are my options?
A: We tried out best to schedule camp when most children are on Spring Break from school, but it was impossible to pick dates that accommodated everyone. If you would like to bring your child to only the afternoon sessions, we understand. Just email us and let us know they will not be at the morning sessions.
Q: My child will not be here during the Sub-Regional camp (traveling). Can he/she tryout at another time?
A: The Hawaii ODP Sub-Regional serves two purposes. First, to provide training and evaluation by USYS West Region Staff with possible invites to the USYS West Region ODP Camp this summer. If your child is not at the Sub-Regional, they will miss out on the opportunity for interaction with the Region Staff as well as the chance to travel to the West Region Camp this summer. Second, the Region Staff works with State Staff to identify the Hawaii State Player Pool for each age group. A player missing the Sub-Regional may still tryout at a State Pool Training session during the summer – tryout and state pool fees apply. Dates, times & locations will be determined by the ODP State Coach for that age group.
Q: My child already received an invite to West Region Camp based on the ODP Championships. Does he/she still have to go to the Sub-Regional?
A: West Region ODP expects all players to participate in their State ODP functions in order to still be eligible for Regional Camps. It is an opportunity for further exposure and development with Region Staff Coaches, especially for States with geographic challenges like Hawaii. The more chances your child has to work with the Regional staff, the better for them to continue their development.
Q: So what’s next after the ODP Sub-Regional?
A: Some players may receive and invite to the Regional ODP Camp this summer – girls in Colorado, boys in Idaho. (Note: there is no Region Camp for 07s). Some players will receive invitations to be a part of the Hawaii State Pool for their age group. The State Pool will be trained by Hawaii ODP Staff several times over the summer (May to August). In September, a State Team (approximately 18 players) will be selected to travel to the ODP Championships in January of 2019 in Phoenix, AZ. In addition, our 2006 Boys have been invited to participate in the Saitama Cup in Japan in July.
